Three shots of Main Street Portales and one of our courthouse, taken about an hour ago.
It was fairly breezy out... the net effect being the blossoms on the trees are rather blurry (my shutter speed varied between eight and 20 seconds). I also couldn't seem to get the color correction quite right as you can see, even after messing around with the various white balance settings. These are four of the 40 pics I took.
I like the color - night shots are so difficult, but these are great. You make Portales seem a bit romantic.

Cricket: P-Ville fits for me at this point in time. That said, I would NEVER have chosen to live here as a young man. But it really works now that I'm a geezer.
Moogie: Early in the morning... and I mean EARLY... is arguably the best time o' day to view P-Ville. (insert big-ass grin here)

The trees are just beautiful.
Looks like a damn nice place to live, Buck. Of course, that's probably because the streets are empty. Places without people tend to appeal to the misanthrope in me.

ReplyDeleteJim: We really do NOT have such a thing as a "traffic jam." I love that.
Those narrow windows on the partial 4th floor were (are?) the county jail cells. I spent some time in there one night. It was an exercise by our church youth leader to get us to feel what Paul felt when he was imprisoned.
ReplyDeleteIt didn't work. We joked around and sang "I shot the sheriff."
I see they still have the civil defense bomb shelter signs on the courthouse. When I was a kid there were barrels of water and soda crackers stored in the basement.

ReplyDeleteGordon: I dunno if the jail is still there or not. I've never been inside the courthouse and need to do that. I'm told there are some great old WPA murals inside. Good eye on the CD signs!
